Warrnambool decking & outdoor living
A well-built deck or pergola turns the outside of your home into a room you actually use. HRB Border Construction designs and builds timber and composite decking, pergolas and verandahs across Warrnambool and South West Victoria — and because Harry is a registered builder, it's done properly from the ground up.
The part of a deck you don't see is the part that decides how long it lasts. Correct footings, properly spaced bearers and joists, the right fixings for our salt-air conditions, and good drainage and ventilation are what keep a deck solid and square for decades — not just for the first summer.
We build the structure to code, then finish it to a standard you'll be proud to entertain on. Whether you want a low platform deck flowing off the living room, a raised deck to make the most of a view, or a pergola or verandah for shade and shelter, we handle the whole job with one accountable team.

Questions
Decking is usually priced per square metre and depends on the decking material, the height of the deck, the framing and footings, and any stairs, balustrade or roofing. As a guide, a treated-pine deck typically starts from around $250–$350 per square metre, hardwood and premium composite decks cost more, and a covered pergola or verandah adds to that again. We quote every job in full before we start.
Both work well — it comes down to the look you want and how much maintenance you're happy with. Timber (treated pine or hardwood) gives a natural finish but needs periodic oiling and upkeep. Composite decking costs more up front but resists fading, splitting and rot and needs very little maintenance, which suits our coastal, salt-air conditions. We'll talk you through the trade-offs for your budget.
It depends on the size, the height off the ground and whether it's covered. Many low decks and small pergolas are exempt, but larger or raised structures often need a building permit. As a registered builder we can advise what your project needs and make sure it's built to code.
